New Energy Today - The power of Resilience

Limes MD Cristiano Spillati is the feature interview of New Energy Today Magazine’s June issue, sharing insights from over two decades in renewables across 13 countries. He reflects on scaling clean energy globally, Limes’ evolution into a 6 GW developer in seven markets, and its next phase: team growth, a hybrid model of asset development and ownership, and expanded services.

Lintasntt - Italian Investors Explore Solar Power Plant Development in Southwest Sumba

Lintasntt reports that Limes Renewable Energy is exploring the development of solar power plants in Southwest Sumba, Indonesia, as part of efforts to support the region’s energy transition. During a preliminary visit in May 2025, the company engaged with local authorities to assess potential collaboration and lay the groundwork for future clean energy initiatives.

Milano Finanza - Limes Renewable Energy cashes in in Italy and aims for independent production

In an exclusive interview with Milano Finanza, Limes’ Managing Director Cristiano Spillati highlighted a key achievement: the successful sale of a 287 MW portfolio in Italy to an international independent power producer (IPP). The portfolio, evenly split between solar PV and wind — including 50 MWp of fully authorised solar projects, will generate around 669 GWh annually, supporting Italy’s energy transition. The discussion also covered Italy’s permitting challenges, Limes’ expansion across emerging markets such as Vietnam and Indonesia, the importance of local presence and local engagement, and the company’s evolving vision.

PV Tech - Italy adds 6.8GW of PV in 2024 as utility-scale projects surge

Italy’s solar market is evolving fast. According to PV Tech, 2024 saw Italy add 6.8GW of solar PV – a 30% increase from the previous year – driven by a 163% surge in utility-scale projects. Data from Italia Solare shows that 3,045MW of utility-scale capacity was added last year versus 1,157MW in 2023, while residential installations dropped by 21% following the end of the Super bonus scheme. As reported by the article, this trend towards utility-scale was predicted last year by Limes Managing Director, Cristiano Spillati, who foresaw “the average size of solar projects to get bigger in 2024” in an interview with PV Tech. He also noted the “disparity between Italy’s electricity demand, clustered in the wealthier north of the country, and the available land and sun for large solar plants in the south”, emphasising that “energy storage would become essential in meeting the country’s electricity demand with renewables”.

Economy Magazine - Renewables Put to the Test

Limes was mentioned in an article in Economy Magazine, written by Vincenzo Petraglia, which highlights how, according to estimates, alternative energy production will grow exponentially by 2030. Limes was cited among the most dynamic Italian developers, with a particular focus on the need to accelerate the development and construction of storage systems linked to renewables in Italy.

Sustainability Voices - The NIMTO (“Not In My Terms of Office”) Movement: Delaying the Transition to Renewable Energy

In Sustainability Voices, Limes Managing Director Cristiano Spillati highlights how the "NIMTO" (Not In My Terms of Office) phenomenon delays renewable energy progress. He explains how unstable policies create costly uncertainty for developers and underlines the need for early community engagement to build support and reduce opposition, ensuring more stable decision-making for long-term change.

Power Engineering International - Renewables and Competitiveness: How Draghi sees Europe’s path forward

In Power Engineering International, Managing Director Cristiano Spillati examines the Draghi Report, stressing that Europe must act decisively on clean energy to remain competitive and highlighting the economic benefits of decarbonisation, including reduced reliance on fossil fuels, job creation, and energy independence, while urging that delaying the transition will cost Europe immensely.

PV Tech - Italy’s ‘illogical’ agricultural solar ban contains ‘contradictions’, lawyer says

Managing Director Cristiano Spillati and other experts share their perspectives on Italy’s agricultural solar ban in PV Tech’s article: “Italy’s ‘illogical’ agricultural solar ban contains ‘contradictions’, lawyer says”. The proposed ban on solar PV developments on agricultural land in Italy has drawn criticism for its perceived contradictions and lack of clarity. Many view the current draft as poorly written, leaving room for multiple interpretations. As the industry awaits clarification, concerns arise about its potential impact on Italy's solar targets and investment opportunities.

PV Tech - Italy’s solar renaissance: the challenges, the opportunities and the grid

‘Italy’s Solar Renaissance: the Challenges, the Opportunities and the Grid’, stemming from insights provided by Managing Director Cristiano Spillati during a chat with PV Tech at Large Scale Solar Europe 2024 in Lisbon. Italy experienced a significant resurgence in solar PV installation in 2023, with over 5GW of new capacity, mainly from large-scale projects. However, challenges persist, including grid congestion, permitting issues, and a shortage of bankable EPC contractors. Despite obstacles, there's optimism for increased utility-scale solar development, driven by the end of rooftop PV subsidies and the expectation of larger project sizes in the future.
