Kompas - Violet Sun System Facilitates Italian Investors to Build Solar Power Plant in Kupang

KUPANG, KOMPAS.com - Violet Sun System, an Indonesian renewable energy company, facilitated a strategic meeting between Limes Renewable Energy from Italy and the Acting Regent of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Alex Lumba, on Monday (11/11/2024).

The meeting aimed to discuss plans to build a solar power plant (PLTS) in Kupang Regency, with a focus on increasing access to clean energy and supporting sustainable development in the region.

The meeting was also attended by PT Surya Energi Indotama (SEI), a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) that will be a partner in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) for this PLTS project.

SEI has experience in managing renewable energy projects in East Nusa Tenggara, including the solar power plant in Oelpuah, Kupang Regency.

William Runturambi, Business Development Director of Limes Renewable Energy, said that his party is committed to bringing foreign direct investment (FDI) to accelerate the development of renewable energy in Indonesia, especially in Kupang Regency.

‘We are very enthusiastic about the potential of solar energy in East Nusa Tenggara. This collaboration is an important step to have a positive impact on the community through clean energy and to strengthen the infrastructure in Kupang Regency,’ explained William.

William added that the partnership between Limes Renewable Energy, Violet Sun System, PT Surya Energi Indotama and the Kupang Regency Government will strengthen all aspects of the project, from design to implementation.

During the discussion, Acting Regent Alex Lumba expressed his appreciation for the support and investment from these international partners.

Alex also proposed the Sulamu District as a potential location for the solar power plant, given the presence of a pier in the area which will facilitate logistical access and support the government's plan to develop Sulamu into a Special Economic Zone (KEK).

‘This investment has the potential not only to expand access to electricity, but also to open up opportunities for economic development through a new economic zone that focuses on clean energy,’ explained Alex.

Meanwhile, Violet Sun System CEO Julian Ciptadiputra explained that the solar power plant project will increase the target for achieving the transition to renewable energy in NTT as well as creating new economic opportunities, especially in Kupang Regency.

‘We are proud to play a role as a liaison for strategic cooperation between local governments and international investors. We are committed to ensuring that this process runs smoothly, and to supporting all parties in realising a sustainable and beneficial project,’ said Julian.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Cavallo, General Manager of International Business Development at Limes Renewable Energy Italia, highlighted the importance of international partnerships in this project.

He also emphasised that the solar power plant in Kupang will be one of the key steps in promoting renewable energy in Indonesia.

‘This project reflects our commitment to invest in Kupang Regency through the renewable energy sector, with the hope of improving the welfare of the people of Kupang Regency,’ he added.

This cross-sector collaboration confirms Kupang Regency's vision of developing into a centre for renewable energy in East Nusa Tenggara.

Through a strategic partnership initiated by Violet Sun System, the project is expected not only to expand access to clean energy, but also to create new economic opportunities and increase the attractiveness of sustainable investment in Kupang Regency.
